| Born and raised in western Oklahoma, artist Carl D. Rhodes can't remember a time when he didn't know he would be an artist. The realities of life often led down other trails, but painting and the artist's spirit have been constant companions. Carl struggled for many years to develope the artistic talents needed to become the Landscape and Wildlife artist he is today. Hard work, an intense desire to create art, years of study, and a love of our natural wonders have resulted in his unique style of impressionistic realism. Living near the Witchita Mountains Wildlife Refuge, Carl spent many days hiking and watching the bison. It seems natural that most of his wildlife paintings should feature buffalo. To Carl, buffalo invoke visions of the wild west, before people began to cover it with civilization. Carl is primarily a landscape painter. He is drawn to the wild places, and enjoys the challenges of trying to capture them on canvas. He has a few favorite places to paint, like the Witchita Mountains area, the Tetons, and White Mountains of Arizona, but any lanscape could find itself in a Carl Rhodes painting. |
